Projects and Artist Statement
She is currently working on writing her first full-length screenplay, as well as a short film with another student.
“I get my inspiration from really anything I come across on a daily basis that strikes me as significant. From the literature I read to the posts I see on social media, anything could be a source of inspiration for me. For example, I’ve always had a connection to music, so I often write to background music from carefully curated playlists I’ve created. I try to incorporate a lot of aspects of my everyday life into my filmmaking, like collecting phrases and lyrics that would later work their way into my screenplays.
My primary source of inspiration, however, is the beauty of humanity itself. I love the emotional vulnerability of people sharing the things that have happened in their life, the stories that they have lived. That connection to people’s feelings is my top priority in whatever I make, even if not everyone connects to what I create in the same way. One piece of art can mean different things to different people which is why I tend to leave my ending more open. I like people to form their own interpretations of what I make; to look at what I make and feel seen. I want to engage them in their own creative process. I feel it is an outlet for both the creator and the audience when they see their own emotions reflected on a screen and to get that deep rooted connection is always my goal.”
